Five on Friday (16)

Apparently I haven’t done a Five on Friday post since November… holy smokes! I am trying to make a more consistent return to the land of the blogging so here we are! Lots of news around these parts… working on some home improvement projects with a new garage door being installed next week and some landscaping work completed. Jerry also joined the Jeep family a couple of weeks ago like me! He drove an old car and we were fed up with all the repairs, so we both drive Liberties now. I knew I would convert him! The weather is warming up too finally and I’ve been enjoying some walks outside with Caleb this week. Anyway, happy Friday!

ONE. We hired a landscaping company and had the front of our house done last weekend. We’re SO happy with the results and decided to hire someone because we really have no idea about how to plant things, or what we should even plant. Let’s just say it was a HOT MESS before we had it done and now it’s beautiful. Mulch and ten plants were put in and we’re very happy with the results. Up above you’ll see our before picture and two after pictures. What do you think?

TWO. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but my aunt and I have season tickets to our local theater and get to see five or six musicals a year. Last week, we saw Dirty Dancing, and oh my gosh, I LOVED IT! I’ve actually never seen the movie (yeah, I know… whaaaat?!) but I’m planning on seeing it ASAP now. I’d definitely say it’s in my top three favorite shows and I’ve seen a lot (Rent is always and forever my number one)! Great music, great energy, funny, and just all around awesome. I really felt like I was there at the resort and part of the action. SO SO good. I… had the time of my life (sorry, had to do it!).

THREE. Preparations are underway for our second cruise in November! We’ll be leaving out of Tampa and are planning a five night cruise. We’re going with my grandparents who live in Florida and love cruising so we’re looking forward to spending some time with them too! We’ve had a few overnight getaways, but this is our first real vacation since our honeymoon cruise in October 2013. I am SO in need of a vacation.

FOUR. A colleague and I started a writing group at work and we held our first meeting this week. It went REALLY well, better than expected, and I’m really looking forward to all of our monthly meetings now. We had some truly talented writers in the bunch and an awesome turnout. Kindred spirits, y’all.

FIVE. Jerry and I ran our first 5K in two years last Sunday and ugh… it was a very poor performance. Not only was it freezing out, but we were just totally unprepared and did not train enough. I cannot believe that I ran a half-marathon a couple of years ago and managed to totally bomb a shorter race like this one. I am disappointed in myself. We probably only ran about 10% of it and walked the rest. I know I need to stop beating myself up over it and just kick my butt back into shape, so that’s the plan. We are hoping to redeem ourselves and run another race at the end of the summer after proper training.

Aaand to end things on a more positive note (can “Six on Friday” be a thing?), Caleb is suddenly a toddler. He had his second haircut over the weekend and it instantly made him look about five. He also made some amazing progress this week. He’s been working on pulling up to standing in PT for about a month, but he’s always needed assistance. On Wednesday, he did it by himself for the first time, and I screamed with excitement.

What’s new with all of you? What are your weekend plans? Share, share, share!
