Oh my, I haven’t done a thankful post since May apparently! Glad to be doing another one and linking up with the sweet Rebecca Jo.
My Aunt Karin: my aunt and I are really close. She’s one of my favorites, she gets me in a way not many do, she accepts me for who I am, and I am ALWAYS thankful for her. But I am especially thankful for her this week! On Saturday, Jerry and I both had to work and my mama was out of town. My aunt swooped in to help. She came to my house with bags of treats and toys for the boys, walked them to a park, and even came bearing gifts for me and Jer: a new hose and a carbon monoxide detector. Then she came back the next day and did some work around the yard and helped us out in a big way with some house repairs after we chatted about things we needed to update. I just love her.
My Aunt Nikki: another great aunt… I’m a lucky girl! She’s our usual backup sitter when my mom isn’t available, and she watched Holden for us one day this week. I know he’s a busy, exhausting little guy at the moment, so she really helped us out.
Time with my mom: my mom and I have had a couple of little shopping days together this week! On Monday, we went to the mall so I could pick up some Spooky Town items at Michaels, and we did the same yesterday. Wednesdays are my late day to work, so we usually take the kids to Dairy Queen and Goodwill (Caleb’s favorite store LOL), so we did that yesterday, plus made another Michael’s run. I basically live there during the fall.
Coupons: I love Michaels, but they do that annoying thing where they jack up prices and make you “coupon” to get things at a reasonable price. Nonetheless, I am thankful that they put out coupons basically daily, and also accept competitor coupons, because that’s how I get my Spooky Town village at a somewhat reasonable price. Playing this coupon game is kind of silly though because every day, I wake up and check their coupons as well as their competitor’s coupons, and try to scheme how to get the best deal.
Spooky Town friend: speaking of Spooky Town, when I was loading up my cart yesterday at Michaels, I saw another girl about my age picking some items up. I have NEVER in my 3 years of collecting run into someone else at the Spooky Town display, so I struck up a conversation with her. She told me this was her first year doing Spooky Town, and I told her to join one of the Facebook Spooky Town groups I’m in. Last night, I posted in said group about meeting this girl and then lo an behold, she commented “that was me!” So she joined the group and I quickly friended her on Facebook. Sometimes, the internet just blows my mind… in a good way. I didn’t know her name or anything about her, but voila, found her on Facebook.
Sink repaired: the faucet on our kitchen sink has been broken and hanging on for dear life for ohhh… four years? It worked, but it was ridiculous to look at. We got the name of a plumber this week, he came out that same exact day, told us to buy a new faucet, then came out and installed it yesterday. Two day turnaround time and reasonably priced? Good deal, I say!
Future house plans: Jerry and I have decided once and for all to tear up the hideous, smelly carpet downstairs and I am super pumped. In November, I’ll be getting a big health insurance reimbursement, so we’ve found a really well priced contractor who is going to install some new vinyl flooring for us. Right now, it’s just kind of a catch-all storage room with our treadmill in there and lots of junk, but we’re going to turn it into a playroom for the boys. November can’t come soon enough! I’m really excited, can you tell?!
Seeing Holden stand: Holden has pretty sturdy little legs and can stand if you hold him, but last week he pulled himself to stand for the first time! My parents were out of town so it was just by chance that I had taken that Thursday off of work since I didn’t have Mimi Daycare… and it was the first time he did it and I was home to see! He fell after a few seconds, cried, and hasn’t done it again since, but we’ll get there.
My new book cart: I’ve been wanting one of those darn book carts that are all over Instagram, and now that I’m bookstagramming, I wanted one even more! I’ve been pricing them out and waiting to budget for one… but then I saw one at Aldi for $25 last week. You bet that bad boy jumped right into my shopping cart, after about 3 seconds of consideration. Now to get Jerry to put it together…
In store pickup: I’ve used the buy online, pick up in store feature at both Michaels and Home Depot this week and umm… it’s my new favorite. Such a time saver, especially for Home Depot which is huge and I hate it.
Jumping into fall: I hate the heat, so summer is not my favorite, and if you know me, you know that I am the Halloween queen. I could live in the fall forever. That said, I MAY have put out my first bit of fall decorations last weekend. Only one pair of pumpkin dolls so far, but they make me happy to look at, so no shame in my game! I’m slowly going to start bringing out more fall / Halloween decor because why not? Get an early start!
… and that’s what I’ve got for the week! Please tell me something that you’re grateful for right about now!
