I’ve spoken time and again about how I’ve firmly planted my roots here in my hometown. About how I crave a simple life, and cherish nothing more than being near my family. But I’ve also talked a bit about how I used to have these big huge DREAMS of living in New York City when I was younger, until gradually over time, those dreams morphed completely: from wanting that life in the fast lane, to suddenly wanting a quiet piece of land and a farmhouse placed right in the middle. I went from one end of the spectrum to the next, as I realized that my quiet nature and introverted personality are much better suited to a quiet, more rural life.
Though my dreams lie in the country now, I’d be lying if I said I don’t every once in awhile wonder what if might be like if we just up and moved completely. Started a new life with a fresh slate. This won’t happen because it isn’t what we truly want deep down, but perhaps it’s happened for you (and if so, I harbor a bit of envy… sometimes).
You might just be looking for a change, or maybe you’ve landed a new job that’s taking you far from home. Either way, moving is something that’s most definitely a big deal. It can be useful to use a site like MyBekins to help you move if you need it. Otherwise, you could just cram everything you own into your car, and off you go! If a move is in the cards for you, and you’re wondering if you’ll miss home, think about some of these awesome benefits of moving.
A new place, a new you
If you have lived in the same place for all of your life, then you won’t have had the experience of living somewhere new. You will be used to seeing the same people, and going through life as you always have. But moving to somewhere new is a good chance to breakaway and do something different from what you have always known. You won’t be the little girl that your neighbors remember being born, or be known as someone’s daughter. You can be anyone that you want to be and can really rely on yourself, rather than on other people.
Make new friends
Making friends is quite easy when you’re a child, as you are presented with a variety of different things that force you to have friends. Parents arrange playdates, or you simply have your choice of people at school to connect with. As an adult, it can be harder to make friends, as people are so busy, and in some cases, aren’t looking for a new friend. To make a new connection as an adult can be hard. But when you move to a new place, you can meet a whole host of new people, as everything is completely new, and any new place or experience could mean potential new friends. A new job, a new class, or a new neighborhood can all mean new people to meet and make friends with.
Satisfy your desire to travel
One of the best times to travel and explore is when you are young, because when you’re older and have other people to think about, like a spouse and children, getting up and moving across the country can be difficult. But moving to somewhere new gives you a lot of time to discover the places closer to you, and it can mean that you’re nearer to a new airport, which could make your travels simpler.
If you want to live in one place for your whole life, then it can be quite natural to associate the happiness and comfort that you experience there, with the place itself. It can be hard to imagine yourself living anywhere else. However, you can make anywhere feel like your home.
So tell me… are you one of those homebodies like me who never want to leave, or have you made a big move to a new place? Part II is coming tomorrow!
